Course description and aims

This course is mainly designed for the international students who aim or consider taking job/internship in Japan. In the course, engineers/researchers are invited from the companies of various industries to give the lectures about general introduction and working environment of the Japanese industries and companies.
The objective of this course is to provide participants with various information about Japanese companies and industries, and to motivate them in their self-study to acquire communication skills needed for working in the particular companies and industries of their interest.

Student learning outcomes

Through the studies in the class and the company visits, the students are expected to set their own targets and self-study plan for learning the language and communication skills that are needed in working at internship and companies of their interest.

Class flow

The students will have six lectures on various industries and institutes in Japan. At the end of each lecture, the students should answer a short quiz and submit it. The students may ask the lecturers to set up a company visit. As a final report, the students set up their own target and self-study plan for learning language and communication skills that are needed in working at internship and companies of their interest.

Assessment criteria and methods

Attendance of the lectures and submission of short quizzes (70%) and final report (30%)
