Course description and aims

This course is to give credit for domestic experience to develop global competencies.
The evaluation will be conducted based on 1) activity plan, 2) report, and 3) final presentation (all in english).
The aim of this course it to develop skills listed in learning outcomes.

Student learning outcomes

1) To be able to set a clear goal related to one's career goal, and to be able to elucidate issues with new global perspective aside from existing concepts.
2) To be able to lead the collaboration with members from different countries, mother languages, customs, and cultures with diverse perspectives to develop new ideas and proposals.
3) To be able to develop, implement, evaluate, and improve the new plan for history, culture, industry, and the issues in one's country linked to the world. Owning one's field of expertise, to be able to work with people from different field of expertise.

Class flow

This course is to give credit for domestic experience to develop global competencies. Specific examples of activities are, not limited but participation for on-line coursework offered by Tokyo Tech partner universities, internship at international/government organizations, etc. in Japan (include on-line) and others.
The criteria for earning credit are,
For participation to on-line coursework offered by Tokyo Tech partner universities; 1) at least 30 hours of workshop/lectures/and other academic activities (note), 2) the activities are conducted in English, 3) activities are interactive, such as group work, discussion and so on.
For participation in internship;1)More than 10 days of actual working period,2)works are conducted in English
(Note)If you can fulfill more than 30 hours of course work, it is possible to combine multiple courses. Please contact instructor for the subject for approval.
By fulfilling the aforementioned criteria, the learning process to gain skills listed in Global Scientists and Engineers Course (GSEC)'s Rubric will be evaluated by report (English) and final presentation (English).

If you are participating the internship and willing to obtain credit for this subject, you need to submit the letter of intent or some sort. Please contact instructor in advance.

What kind of preparation you think will be necessary to develop such skills in your near future, 7) Personal essay Report A4 5-10 pages (including figures and photos), Presentation for 10 min. Submit activity plan, report, and deliver final presentation.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend a certain length of time outside of class on preparation and review (including for assignments), as specified by the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Undergraduate Learning (東京工業大学学修規程) and the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Graduate Learning (東京工業大学大学院学修規程), for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
