Students, who are majoring in science, engineering, and so on, already have the professional responsibilities as both of a scientist and an engineer. The aim of this course is to grasp the basics of research ethics and engineering ethics through a series of case studies. In particular, students learn the important issues in the contemporary society with highly advanced science and technology. They are expected to obtain fundamental knowledge and skills to be an expert in this area.
By successfully completing this course, students will be able to
1) explain basic concepts of research ethics by using concrete cases
2) explain basic concepts of engineering ethics by using concrete cases
3) propose solutions for ethical problems for professional scientist and engineer using decision-making methods

This course incorporates workshops and group discussions, as well as the traditional lecture style. Students are required to actively participate in those in-class activities. All classes are delivered online due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Students are advised to take the course in the environment where they can use microphones.
