Course description and aims

Starting from the understanding of the current status of science education in our middle and high schools, by considering what is needed to have students study proactively, we acquire better way of teaching modern science education.

Student learning outcomes

The purpose of this course is to provide students with the fundamentals of science teaching methods. Topics include teaching methods, development of logical thinking, conceptual learning, design of teaching and learning systems, and evaluation.

As a former high school science teacher, former chief instructor at the Board of Education, and former curriculum and academic achievement researcher at the National Institute for Educational Policy Research (NIER) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), I will provide lectures and exercises to understand curriculum and lesson planning in science, utilizing his educational experience at school sites and teaching teacher training at the educational administration.

Class flow

The course will be in an intensive lecture format and will be offered in-person on September 28 and October 5. Since the class will incorporate collaborative learning, the syllabus is subject to change depending on progress.
