This course is aimed at intermediate level students who have studied about 400 kanji words. Students will learn kanji words which are:
- often used in daily life and campus life including their research activities;
- useful for the intermediate level study of Japanese as well.
Students will learn how to expand their knowledge of kanji system and skills for recognizing kanji which will lead them to achieve their autonomous Kanji studying.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) pronounce and understand various kanji combination words used at the intermediate level and (N3)-N2 level of JLPT;
2) catch the main idea of sentences using kanji words as a clue;
3) guess the pronunciation and the meaning of kanji combination words which they have not seen before;
4) expand their vocabulary.

Students will learn 13 new kanji in each class. Through activities and assignments in the class, students will acquire knowledge of kanji and the skills for actual usage. Students are given assignments in every class, and are required to take the final exam.

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend 30-60 minutes preparing for class and another 30-60 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Students are required to attend more than 60% of the scheduled classes to take the final exam.
Only for international students whose Japanese proficiency is equivalent to intermediate level, having knowledge of about 450 kanji. Applicants who have passed Japanese Kanji: Intermediate 2 are, in principle, accepted in this course, however, new applicants are required to take Kanji level test. This course is for students who do not use kanji in their first language.
