This course is for students who have intermediate Level German language skills. Students will read various German texts and practically learn how to read advanced sentences.
The main focus of the class is to develop the skill for reading German, and thinking in German. By understanding various texts, students will deepen their comprehensive knowledge of German-speaking culture and history.

Text materials will be provided to students in the class. (The materials are actually written by German-speaking people. Grammar and vocabulary that should be noted are accompanied by explanations.) Students will listen to the commentary, translate German sentences into Japanese, and submit a Japanese translation. In the class, the instructor will show an example of translation, explain the points of reading. We will consider the substance of the text together.

Through texts actually written by German-speaking people, you will understand grammar and absorb written expressions. Use beginner textbooks and reference books to review basic grammar. When you read the German-Japanese dictionary, please keep an eye on all example sentences.

Based on all submissions, the instructor will evaluate the accuracy of students' translations and reading comprehension(60%). The results of exercises during the class(e.g., pronunciation) are also evaluated (40%).
Students must have intermediate Level German language skills. For example, completion of basic German course or intermediate German course is desirable. Students will review their basic knowledge of German grammar in the class.
