In this lecture, various sentences written in German are read. Students who have learned basic German grammar aim to establish their knowledge and improve their practical reading comprehension skill. The understanding to the culture of the German-speaking world will deepen through the text.

Text materials (created by the instructor) will be provided to students in the class. (The content is German sentences and notes about grammar and vocabulary.) Students will listen to the commentary, translate German sentences into Japanese, and submit a Japanese translation. In the next class, the instructor will show an example of translation, explain the points of reading. We will consider the substance of the text together.

Class 1 | We read Thomas Mann's novels. The amount of reading at one time is adjusted according to the level of understanding. There will be a total of 7 classes. Mann says, “the more thoroughly you talk, the more interesting it becomes.” So how is it interesting? Let's actually read his writings. Understanding concrete and clear sentences is a great way to improve your language skills. You will use your knowledge of grammar to translate German sentences into Japanese. Revise the German grammar using your elementary textbook and dictionary.
The text materials will be provided in the class.
When you read the German-Japanese dictionary, please keep an eye on all example sentences.
Based on all submissions, the instructor will evaluate the accuracy of students' translations and reading comprehension. In each class students should translate German sentences into Japanese and submit them.
Students will review their basic knowledge of German grammar in the class.
Please don't hesitate to ask questions, even if they are small.
Nothing is more difficult and interesting than the basics of grammar.
