This advanced course is designed for learners who have acquired basic ability of Mandarin Chinese as a foreign language. The aim is to develop an ability to use the language effectively for purposes of practical communication. The course is based on the linked language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing. We will use the materials that introduce various sides of Chinese society, we hope it will help students to improve their abilities of communication in Chinese, at the same time, to have a good understanding of Chinese culture and society.
At the end of this course, students will be able to grasp the main ideas and arguments of popular books or newspapers in Chinese, to have practical Chinese abilities including skills of listening and speaking for studying abroad in the future.

In each class, students are required to read articles or watch videos of Chinese and translate it into Japanese with the instructor. Towards the end of class, students are required to write a few sentence related to the texts, and have a conversation .

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 30 minutes preparing for class and another 30 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.

Students’ course scores are based on ordinary exercises (60%) and report (40%).
