"Spanish: Basic Course 1'' is designed for beginners with no previous experience in the language. By the end of the quarter, students can expect to express themselves in simple phrases and sentences. You will learn the pronunciation and spelling of the language, how to read and write simple texts in present tense, and some basic rules of the Spanish grammar.
At the end of this course, students will have acquired the basics of Spanish pronunciation and spelling. You will also be able to exchange greetings in Spanish and understand some important basics of Spanish grammar.

The instructor explains the main grammatical points of the day. Students will solve some quizzes on related topics, and also read texts in classroom to get a better understanding of each topic. The instructor also tends to show a movie or put some music in class so that students get acquainted to the culture and society of Spanish speaking countries. Attendance is required in every class.

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.

Learning achievement is evaluated by comment sheets (70%) and by the end of term essay (30%).
