Course description and aims

Based on English 5, English 6 is designed to improve students’ English language skills for academic purposes and provide them with more knowledge in relevant areas. The materials include topics such as international and intercultural issues as well as current topics of science and technology. Expectations require students to practice: reading academic articles, listening to English lectures, speaking before an audience, and developing skills to write paragraphs and short essays.

Class flow

Only English will be used in class. Students are required to read the relevant unit and prepare in advance. Students are also required to participate in class actively. Review each unit because a review quiz will be regularly given in class.

Class 4 Unit 8 Test Unit 9 Publich Health Students will watch a short university-level public health lecture and practice note-taking as well as answer questions based on the lecture.
Class 5 Unit 9 Public Health Unit 10 Urban Planning Students will watch short university-level public health and urban planning lectures and practice note-taking as well as answer questions based on the lectures.
Class 6 Unit 9 Test Unit 10 Urban Planning, Unit 11 Biology Students will watch short university-level urban planning and biology lectures and practice note-taking as well as answer questions based on the lectures.
Class 7 Unit 10 Test Unit 11 Biology Review Students will watch a short university-level biology lecture and practice note-taking as well as answer questions based on the lectures.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
