Course description and aims

This course is for students who have already studied for or taken the TOEFL test but hope to raise their score. It trains students' English skills in English with special focus on listening and speaking. It also introduces them to basic academic vocabulary and expressions useful for studying abroad for a short period of time.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of the course students will be able to understand a few-minute speech or conversation discussing academic topics and to explain its main points and some details in English.

Class flow

In each session, the first half will focus on the listening part of the textbook, and the second half will be about writing. From the second session on, students are required to take mini-tests about the contents in the previous session. After learning how to improve TOEFL score, in the final session, each student will be required to give a short presentation. To prepare for the presentation, each session will include a brief exercise of one-minute talk. Note: The schedule below is subject to change.

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to prepare for class and review class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.

Students are assessed on practical English skills and on the degree to which they can use them to communicate with others.
