Course description and aims

English 7 is designed to improve students’ English language skills for academic purposes and provide them with more knowledge in relevant areas. The materials include topics such as international and intercultural issues as well as current topics of science and technology. Expectations require students to practice: reading academic articles, listening to English lectures, speaking before an audience, and developing skills to write paragraphs and short essays.

Class flow

Each topic in the designated textbook is carefully examined in increasing depth and from multiple perspectives: (1) “Motivating Students to Learn; (2) Comprehensive & Deeper Understanding; (3) Internalization & Integration; and (4) Output. Students will learn the four skills necessary for comprehensive and advanced English proficiency through each video that lasts about 3-4 minutes. The goal of this course is to acquire cultural and practical English skills through a reading of about 450 words discussed in a bird's-eye view and output activities that express students' own ideas.
Students are required to read the assigned section of the textbook and answer questions in preparation for class. Classes consist of a review session and exercises aimed at enhancing students’ reading/writing skills.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Assessment criteria and methods

Evaluation will be based on participation and in-class performance (30%), assignments (30%), and unit exams (40%)
*The assignment tasks include each Mini Quiz - checking words, vocabulary, grammar, etc. learned in each unit - (10%) and TWO Discussion Essay (20%).
