Course description and aims

Based on English 5, English 6 is designed to improve students’ English language skills for academic purposes and provide them with more knowledge in relevant areas. The materials include topics such as international and intercultural issues as well as current topics of science and technology. Expectations require students to practice: reading academic articles, listening to English lectures, speaking before an audience, and developing skills to write paragraphs and short essays.

By the end of this course, students will:
・be able to express their ideas and opinions in classes confidently
・be able to write paragraphs or short essays
・be able to better understand academic lectures
・practice effective reading strategies

Class flow

Before class:
1. Complete the worksheet.
2. Fill out the pre-class assignment on the Google Form.
[Review from last week, “Vocabulary” and “Expressions” sections]

In-class
1. Lecture on English skills (10-20 mins)
2. Work on some exercises in a small group (10 mins)

3. Work on the “Warm-up” activity (5-10 mins)
4. A short lecture on vocabulary by the tutor (5-10 mins)
5. Discuss the “Comprehension Questions” in a small group (10-15 mins)
6. Give your feedback to the class about the discussion (10-15 mins)
