Course description and aims

"TOEIC Seminar 3" is designed as an introductory course for students planning to take the TOEIC test. Of the four English-language skills, it puts special emphasis on listening and reading.

Offering TOEIC-style exercises, this course enables students to become familiar with the TOEIC test format. It also aims at improving students' overall English ability by expanding their knowledge of vocabulary and grammar.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
・ familiarize themselves with the TOEIC test format.
・ increase their vocabulary, refine their knowledge of various grammatical structures, and brush up their listening and reading skills.
・ comprehensively improve their English to achieve higher scores on the TOEIC test.

Class flow

Students are required to answer TOEIC style questions in the textbook in order to improve English language proficiency in various settings. They take a weekly mini-test to expand their range of vocabulary.

Class 2 Units 1 and 2: Expressions used in shopping and restaurants Understanding the English text in Unit 1 and answering questions there correctly.
Class 3 Units 3 and 4 + mini-test: Expressions used in transportation and entertainment Understanding the English text in Unit 2 and answering questions there correctly.
Class 4 Units 5 and 6 + mini-test: Expressions used in accommodation and employment Understanding the English text in Unit 3 and answering questions there correctly.
Class 5 Units 7 and 8 + mini-test: Expression used in communication and negotiating Understanding the English text in Unit 4 and answering questions there correctly.
Class 6 Units 9 and 10 + mini-test: Expressions used in presentations and making appointment Understanding the English text in Unit 5 and answering questions there correctly.
Class 7 Units 11 and 12 + mini-test: Expressions used in public facilities and on the streets Understanding the English text in Unit 6 and answering questions there correctly.
Class 8 Review and final exam Reviewing and confirming what students have learned in class.
