Course description and aims

This course is designed to develop English skills for the Reading and Writing sections of the TOEFL test through TOEFL-type exercises in reading and writing and reviewing of them.

This course aims to help students improve their TOEFL score and develop their English skills to study at universities in English speaking countries.

In this course students will
・understand what TOEFL tests are like, especially in reading and writing sections, and how to answer the questions in each section of the test.
・develop academic skills in English and apply those skills to general situation.

Class flow

We will practise the skills needed to succeed at the six questions in the writing section of the TOEFL iBT. We will work through the latter 4 chapters of the textbook with plenty of time for question and answer, structured and free practice. Students are encouraged to bring a laptop to each class and to use a DROPBOX account as we will be sharing work together.

Assessment criteria and methods

Assessment will be 80 percent on a TOEFL style question, not shown in the book, on the final day of the course and 20 percent on effort and participation in class.
