Course description and aims

This course is aimed at students pursuing a long-term exchange. Students will do training to improve the four skills of English. Students will learn English skills necessary for a long-term exchange at the graduate level (capable of listening to contents at the general education course level of bachelor students, take notes, make presentations in seminars, and express your opinion), and learn vocabulary and English skills to explain specialized content without difficulty.

Student learning outcomes

Understand the TOEFL question, and be able to follow its outline. Also be able to clearly explain orally not just the main points of the material, but also its outline. Students should also be able to comment on and give a presentation on the reading problems assigned. Be able to clearly answer questions from students in the classroom. Also be able to hold a somewhat specialized debate.

Class flow

Attendance is taken at each class. Each week, we will discuss a new topic, requiring students to actively participate in class activities, debates, and presentations, and developing students' test taking strategies for the TOEFL iBT. (Note: Syllabus is subject to change based on the levels, needs, and actual number of students.)

Class 4 Lesson 4: Organization Questions and Connecting Content Questions (Listening) Acquire listening skills for the TOEFL.
Class 5 Midterm Exam Lesson 1, 2: Independent Questions (Speaking) Demonstrate knowledge of class materials. Acquire speaking skills for the TOEFL.
Class 6 Lesson 3, 4: Integrated Questions (Speaking) Acquire speaking skills for the TOEFL.
Class 7 Lesson 5, 6: Integrated Questions (Speaking) Acquire speaking skills for the TOEFL.
Class 8 Review of Materials Final Presentation Consolidation, application, and integration of skills, materials, and key concepts. Identify course aims. Demonstrate effective speaking skills for the TOEFL.
