Course description and aims

Positioned as a practical course for producing entrepreneurs from Tokyo Institute of Technology.
Intellectually and experientially grasp the importance of entrepreneurship, which is indispensable for starting a business.
Think about what innovation is, and deepen the recognition that the leader of innovation is a startup.
Ideally, the students themselves should actually start a business while being inspired by the real cases of domestic and foreign practitioners.

Student learning outcomes

Learn the joy of “starting a business” as one of your life options and cultivate an entrepreneurial spirit.
Understand the minimum management know-how such as market size, customers, the essence of a joint-stock company, and financing.
You can apply the knowledge necessary for starting a business to your major and create ideas that will lead to the solution of social issues.

This lecture is supported by Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
Part-time lecturers are journalists with high expertise such as the editorial board of Nihon Keizai Shimbun, and well-known entrepreneurs in Japan.
We will make use of our practical experience to report on the front lines, and provide education that is conscious of learning concrete case from the real world.

Class flow

Lectures, group discussions, and presentations will be given in face-to-face classes and partially online via ZOOM.
Attendance in the classroom is mandatory.
Each session will be based on a lecture and group work, and a reaction paper will be required.
In the final session, each group will give a presentation of their results, which will be reviewed and critiqued.

Class 3 AI Tech Entrepreneurship Practical Course Part 1 by Active Entrepreneurs Through hands-on experience, you will be able to understand practical tasks such as how to make personal connections and how to raise funds.
Class 4 Group work and Presentation Based on the 3rd lecture, students will do group work. Make a presentation about entrepreneurship for each group.
Class 5 AI Tech Entrepreneurship Practical Course Part 2 by Active Entrepreneurs Understand what you should and should not do in tech entrepreneurship.
Class 6 Group work and Presentation Based on the 5th lecture, group work will be conducted and each group will make a presentation on entrepreneurship.
Class 7 Pitch contest (judged by the instructors in charge of each time) Presentation of ideas by each group. The best work is introduced as the first issue from this course.

Assessment criteria and methods

Attendance & mini-report by reaction paper of each time (7 times in total): 70%
Presentation announcement and report submission at the final round: 30%
However, it may be partially changed depending on the lesson content of the instructor in charge.

Prerequisites (i.e., required knowledge, skills, courses, etc.)

There is no knowledge or skills that must be acquired beforehand, but group work will be conducted in class and each group will have the opportunity to present their ideas. In the last session of the class, each group will hold a pitch contest for their entrepreneurial ideas. Students are expected to actively participate and speak up in class.

This course is 500-level course.
Tokyo Tech’s “wedge-shaped style education” enables students to pursue liberal arts education in a phased manner throughout undergraduate and graduate programs.
Students are encouraged to take 100-level to 600-level courses in order. As such, master’s students must begin Humanities and Social Science courses at the 400 level (in 1Q/2Q of the first year for those entering in April, and 3Q/4Q for those entering in September), then proceed to 500-level courses (in 3Q/4Q or later for those entering in April, and 1Q/2Q of the following year or later for those entering in September).
