Course description and aims

The major goal of this lecture is to understand the features of modern technology through analyzing the historical process of technology.
Kawamura(Monday Lecture) pays attention to Science based Technology, and examines Engineers, Research and Development, Electrical Technology, Electrical Industry, Electronics and War, Science and Technology Policy, and so on.
Okada(Thursday Lecture) pays attention to the Postwar Development in Japan(mainly in Computer, Electronics, Automobile, Chemical Engineering), and examine Industries, Engineers and the influence on Japanese Culture and Social Problems, and so on.

Student learning outcomes

In this lecture, Students can understand the basic contents of the method of technical history. In addition, you can understand the background of modern problems that arise between Science and Technology and Society, and obtain a prospect for solving those problems through it.

Class 1 Kawamura's theme( Monday Lecture) is " History of Science Based Technology", and analyzes the characteristics of "Modern Technology" from the 19th century to the 20th century. Okada's theme(Thursday Lecture) is "The Postwar Japanese Industries and Social Problems" We will check the contents of each class.
