In the rapid aging in the Japanese population, people's health has become one of the most important policy isuues. To maintain and improve the nations' health, medical system plays a very important role. To promote the health of workers, their family members including children and the retired elderly, it is important to evaluate their different needs for medical services and to establish the appropriate medical care system. In this lecture, we focus on the system of medical services in Japan in view of international comparison .
The purpose of this course is to understand the importance of the health not only of individuals but also of society as a whole by studying the system of delivering medical care services. It is important to understand the role of central and local governments, entrepreners and health insurers in maitaining the health of people, considering various influential factors like life styles, work styles, income and age.
