Course description and aims

This lecture provides a comprehensive overview of topics related to science and society, including the current status and challenges of science and technology policy and the ethical, legal, and social issues (ELSI) of science and technology research. In Part II, issues that arise at the interface between science and technology policy and society, especially science communication, ELSI, and responsible research and innovation, will be focused on.

Student learning outcomes

The objectives of this course are as follows.

1. To understand the role, significance and current status of science communication.
2. To understand ethical, legal and social issues related to scientific and technological research.
3. To understand responsible research and innovation (RRI).

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
