Course description and aims

In this lecture, we will give an overview of topics related to science and society, such as the current status and issues of science and technology policy and the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of science and technology research.

Student learning outcomes

The objectives of this course are as follows.
1. To understand the significance and transition of science and technology policy.
2. To understand the current status and issues of research evaluation in Japan.

Through each lecture, students will learn about science and technology policy and social issues, and deepen their understanding of what they have learned in their assignments.

Class 6 Current Discussions and Issues Concerning Impact Evaluation Understand the overview of impact evaluation and the situation in Japan, Europe, and the U.S.
Class 7 Presentation Make a presentation summarizing the assignment

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
