Course description and aims

Students will learn about theories and specifics of qualitative research. We will review the various theories behind qualitative research and learn about specific studies using qualitative approaches.
The aim is to acquire the theoretical and practical knowledge of qualitative research, and to develop the ability to present and discuss qualitative methods.

Class flow

Classes will be conducted in seminar style.
Literature review: In the first half of each class, the presenter will give a presentation on a chapter from the textbook, followed by small group discussion, sharing questions and comments as a whole, and resolving any issues that can be resolved.
Qualitative research introduction: the presenter will read a book using qualitative approaches that interests her/him, introduce the contents of the book, and then discuss it with the class.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
