Course description and aims

Understanding the methods in the fields of social science, political science, law and public administration.
Understanding basics of public survey and its research design, designing practical survey plan.

Student learning outcomes

About Legal studies: Legal information research, rules, cases(Japanese), Foreign legal information research, statute, case law(Mainly U.S.)
About social science : discussing, understanding, expressing on recent public survey of social science. Students will be able to design research plan, make participants to understood the intention and improve the plan considering feedback by participants.

Class flow

Legal study method(1 to 7): using legal information resource, understanding judgments and cases (Japanese and English) to report and discussion with other students.
In the latter part(9-14), students can study about the methodlogy of social science focusing on public survey and research design.

Class 12 The novelty of the research Reviewing the research background and thinking novelty of the research.
Class 13 Research method and plan. Thinking for writing the research method and plan.
Class 14 Tips for research design and writing. Thinking tips for research design and writing.
Class 15 Overview the class and reporting Presentation and Discussion about each research designs.

Assessment criteria and methods

Combination of evaluation both legal study method part and politics part.
Legal study: schooling(40%) report and presentation(60%).
Methods for political science and public administration: class discussion(60%) and presentation(40%).
