This course aims to provide a basic perspective on and knowledge about development economics. To this end, an overview of the basic and important theories of both micro- and macro-economics is provided to deepen understanding of developing countries' development issues from an economic perspective. The course will cover specific issues in developing countries such as economic growth, poverty, income gap, urbanization, environmental degradation, education and health and trade. Also as one approach to solving these issues, this course also focuses on "appropriate technology." Appropriate technology does not necessarily mean low level technology- rather a set of knowledge which utilizes a technology more effectively and efficiently by paying attention to the local context and real needs and constraints.
To obtain a basic perspective on and knowledge about development economics and appropriate technology, through examples of common issues such as economic growth, poverty, urbanization and environmental degradation.
