This course gives fundamental knowledge of the metallurgy (material science) of engineering materials, mainly for the students who are learning the transdisciplinary science and engineering.
The aim is to let the students to understand the logic of material science required to select the material beyond the border of discipline, The mechanism of the various properties of the materials is focused in order to realize the transdisciplinary design by reasonable and rigorous material selection.
Out-comes are the knowledge and the skills
1) To understand the types and the design concept of the various materials used in engineering, such as steels, stainless steels, aluminums, aluminum alloys, ceramics, etc…
2) To understand the mechanism which express the characteristics of materials
3) To select materials in engineering design
Phase diagram, quenching, heat treatment, micro-structure, intermetallic compound, strength, conductivity, thermal expansion
