Policies based on the various phenomena and situations during a disaster are required to secure a safe urban environment. The instructor in this course will explain in particular geophysical exploration, a technology for visualizing ground characteristics that have a large effect on tremors during an earthquake, and techniques for understanding human movement characteristics during a disaster in an urban space. In the first half of the course, the instructor will introduce types of geophysical exploration and their principles and theories, characteristics and measurement techniques of various geophysical exploration methods, applied examples of geophysical exploration methods in investigations of oil, minerals, and geothermal resources, and applied examples of geophysical exploration in urban disaster prevention and the construction of basic social facilities. In the second half, the instructor will introduce the processing power and magnitude of facilities and infrastructure matched with the people flow properties of each facility, evacuation guidance, video image analysis as a technology for optimizing energy saving, various simulators, applied examples of movement pattern estimation models and their mechanisms. Finally the instructor will explain basic knowledge of commercialization and the process for creating business ideas.
Moreover, although this course deals with the disaster prevention field, the process of extracting the essence of damage factors and causes, converting it into an engineering model, and developing solutions can be applied to other fields as well. We would like students to learn skills of problem identification and solving through this course.
1) Understand geophysical exploration methods and their characteristics, and be able to explain what methods are effective in underground and foundation surveys.
2) Understand interpretations of underground cross-sections obtained as the result of geophysical exploration, and develop the skills to model underground structures.
3) Learn the configuration, range of application, and issues with people flow and traffic simulation technology
4) Learn basic knowledge about commercialization, the process of producing business ideas, and discussion etiquette
Preventing disaster, Geophysical exploration, Seismics survey, Electrical survey, Electromagnetic survey, Underground resources, Simulation for crowd of people or traffic condition, Business model and its promoting
✔ Specialist skills | Intercultural skills | ✔ Communication skills | ✔ Critical thinking skills | ✔ Practical and/or problem-solving skills |
In the first 4 classes, the instructor will present a basic description and principles of geophysical exploration, while also introducing and explaining examples of underground visualization and modelling that utilize geophysical exploration. In the final 4 classes, the instructor will explain crowd simulation technology and introduce its examples, while also eliciting questions and opinions from students. The instructor will present basic knowledge on commercialization and entrepreneurship, while having students speak about a business model based on each student's specialized field, and discussing it as a class.
