Experience the basic characteristics of building environment, structure and materials which cannot feel in the desk works, for better understanding of the theories and design methods.
For the building environment, measurements of air conditioning, and illuminance are carried out.
For the building stricture, reinforced concrete, steel structure, material property experiments are carried out.
For the building material, tests on workability and strength of concrete, strength of timber materials and building coating materials are carried out.
I This course provides a method for obtaining the fundamental performance on the environmental engineering, structural engineering and building materials. Additionally it provides a technique for calibrating properties of the specimens.
II Experience the following items.
1．Environmental Engineering （Air condition, Illuminance）
2．Structural Engineering （Reinforced Concrete, Steel Structure, Material Property）
3．Building Materials （Workability and Strength of Concrete, Strength of Timber Materials and Building Coating Materials）
Enviromental Engineering, Structural Engineering, Building Materials
|✔ Specialist skills
|✔ Critical thinking skills
|✔ Practical and/or problem-solving skills
Students carry out experiments and measurements under the guidance of faculties and teaching assistants. Students have to submit reports of the experiments.
Students are divided into 4 groups in order to accomplish experiments.
|Orientation (All Faculties)
|Understanding the outline of the experiment and notes.
|Measurement of Young's modulus of material (Takeuchi, Ikarashi and Matsui)
|Evaluation of the young modulus of materials on the basis of the measurement results.
|Shear-bending test for simply supported Reinforced Concrete beam; production of beam specimen (Hotta, Sakata and Yamazaki)
|Understand the construction of Reinforced Concrete beam through the production of a small scale specimen.
|Shear-bending test for simply supported Reinforced Concrete beam; loading test (Hotta, Sakata and Yamazaki)
|Understand the collapse characteristics of reinforced concrete beams through the loading test.
|Workability experiment of concrete material (Mikami)
|Understand the construction methods of concｒete material through the formulation
|Strength test of concrete material and polymer material (Mikami)
|Understand the relationship between the composition and the strength of concrete materials through material tests. Evaluation of mechanical characteristics of polymer material
|Fundamental test of environmental engineering (Yuasa and Kagi)
|Capable to perform the measurement of temperature, relative humidity, particle matter and carbon dioxide concentration. Capability to perform the measurement of illumination level in a room, and to evaluate the light environment.
|Strength test of timber material (Mikami and Yokoyama)
|Understand the relationship between the species and the strength of timber materials through material tests.
Course documents are provided during each class.
Students' course scores are evaluated on the basis of the reports of experiments. Full attendance and completion of all experiments are basically compulsory.
No prerequisites are necessary, but enrollment in the related courses is desirable.
