[Summary of the course] Process of carbon and its related materials cycle in the ocean and at boundary between ocean and atmosphere / land / seafloor, ongoing oceanic change caused by the global environmental change are explained by using, mainly, chemistry. The front line of oceanographic research is introduced.
[Aim of the course] To understand materials cycle in the ocean is essential for students in applied chemistry. To learn ocean observation / research methods is useful / helpful for environmental research. Aim of this course is to understand oceanic control capability of the global environment.
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) Understand the significance of chemical perspectives when addressing environmental issues.
2) Explain carbon’s and its related materials’ cycle in the ocean and oceanic control capability of the global environment.
3) Acquire the knowledge of the newest ocean research method and products.
Global warming, Ocean acidification, Carbon dioxide, Biological pump, Solubility pump
