[Summary of the lecture] In this lecture, basic electrochemistry will be explained based on two chemical rules, (i) thermodynamics: chemical potential, electrochemical potential and electrode potential and (ii) kinetics: rate of electron transfer reaction, current, diffusion process.
[Aim of the lecture] The aims are to understand basic electrochemical knowledge for electrochemical experiments by studying static and dynamic electrochemistry and essential electrochemical instruments and materials.
By the end of this course, students acquire the following ability:
(1) Ability to understand basic electrochemistry theory and experimental procedure.
(2) Ability to understand electrochemical potential, Nernst equation, inner potential, external potential, terminal voltage.
(3) Ability to understand Butler-Volmer equation, current and reaction rate, diffusion equation and current.
(4) Ability to apply electrochemistry to various scientific fields, solid chemistry, metal complex, catalysis, organic synthesis, energy conversion.

This lecture will proceed in the following order: (1) rule of electrochemistry and thermodynamics, (2) rule of electrochemical potential and chemical potential, (3) rule of potential and voltage, (4) rule of current and reaction rate, (5) electrochemical experiment procedures.
In the last lecture, practice problems and interpretation of them will be carried out to confirm the level of understanding.
