Course description and aims

[Summary of the course] This course focuses on the application fields of electrochemistry, following to the basic electrochemistry class. The applications in various fields such as batteries and electrolysis are described. Electrochemical analysis is also described.
[Aim of the course] The class aims understanding of applications of electrochemistry in various fields such as batteries and electrolysis and also in analysis.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to understand the use of electrochemistry in advanced materials and devices.

Class flow

Lectures will be given on individual topics. During the class, students are given exercise problems related to the lecture.

Class 2 Electrochemistry and materials for rechargeable batteries Explain reaction principle and material design of rechargeable batteries.
Class 3 Electrochemical analysis - cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge curves Explain the basics of cyclic voltammetry and charge-discharge curves.
Class 4 Electrochemistry and materials for fuel cells Explain reaction principle and material design of fuel cells.
Class 5 Electrochemical analysis - steady-state polarization curves and impedance methods Explain the basics of steady-state polarization curves and impedance methods.
Class 6 Electrolysis and corrosion Explain reaction principle of electrolysis and corrosion.
Class 7 Practice problems and remarks for confirming the level of understanding Use the exercise problems to better understand the topics covered, and evaluate one’s own progress.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
