This course focuses on the current issues on ironmaking process for the sustainable society. This course could give the students taking this course an opportunity to consider how to introduce innovative technologies such as sensing and simulation to high-temperature process so as to improve the energy efficiency, and how to develop the environmental friendly process. In this course, the general outline of current ironmaking process will be explained at first. Particularly, the way to mine, concentrate and transport iron ores as well as coals, which are both indispensable resources for ironmaking, will be detailed along with the method for evaluating the resource quality and their world-wide trends. Then, the current trend of research and development, for example, IoT and AI on ironmaking process, will be explained. Finally, various challenges for CO2 emission reduction will be explained, and the future issues with respect to iron and steelmaking process will be discussed.
A target of this course is to understand what kinds of effort are being carried out by steelmaking companies on the research and development of ironmaking process in order to attain the sustainable society. Based on this understating, the future targets for CO2 emission reduction will also be discussed, which is the other important target of this course.
