This course focuses on the high-order structure formation in melt processing of polymers, especially on the melt spinning process.
High-order structure development through molecular orientation and crystallization will be discussed
Properties and functionalities of organic materials can be manipulated not only by the designing of chemical structure but also through the three-dimensional arrangement of molecules in the products. In this context, it is important to understand the melt processing of polymers as a tool for controlling the high-order structure. Relation between the temperature and stress histories applied to molten materials in the polymer flow and high-order structure development through molecular orientation and crystallization will be introduced in this course.

This course is held over two academic quarters, with part A for explaining fundamental equations of polymer processing and part B for explaining the mechanism of high order structure in polymer processing. Contents of part A and part B are closely related. Students are recommended to learn the two courses consecutively.
Classes are held mainly using a blackboard, while power-point file and video image are used additionally for providing further understanding.
