Course description and aims

[Description] Students will form teams of three, and gain experience with manufacturing that leverages the exceptional properties of metals. Students will draw up plans for, design, and manufacture products through their own originality and ingenuity. Students and instructors will evaluate manufacturing process and products.

[Aims] Students will learn free-thinking skills and teamwork in the manufacturing process, fostering problem identification and solving skills.

Student learning outcomes

[Student learning outcomes] Students will gain an understanding of the properties of metal materials, and leverage their properties to invent, draw up plans for, design, manufacture, and evaluate the various structures and functional units (sound equipment, devices, transport equipment, etc.) related to real life. Students will thus gain experience with the connection between material functions and material selection, developing creative potential, original thinking, and planning skills.
[Topics] The instructor in this course will cover "manufacturing a veneer car", "manufacturing high-performance batteries (lead acid battery)", and "creating acoustic parts of a music box" as topics.

Student will make a product according to the schedule provided by principle instructer.

Class 5 Investigation of principle functions II (schematic drawing of product and individual parts)
Class 6 Investigation of principle functions III (presentation of schematics. Q and A)

Class 8 Making a product I (educational training of How to use machining tools)
Class 9 Making a product II (machining and cutting of materials)
Class 10 Making a product III (construction of parts)
Class 11 Making a product IV (installation of parts)
Class 12 Making a product V (construction of a product)
Class 13 Preparation of mid-term presentation
Class 14 Mid-term presentation I (High performance battery and music box)

Assessment criteria and methods

Students will be evaluated based on their performance in making products, reports and presentations.
Their attitude in creative lab. will also be taken into consideration for evaluation process of score.
