This course provides students with the opportunity to acquire broad knowledge of the humanities, social sciences, and science and engineering necessary for understanding people, society, and science and technology, interdisciplinary analysis methods, and methods for integrating analysis results from a variety of analysis methods.
Students will learn interdisciplinary basic knowledge and research methods, and methods for integrating interdisciplinary analysis results. Based on an understanding of the properties and interaction of humans, society, and science and technology, students will hone the perceptiveness to grasp the essence of problems, the reflective skills to not over-rely on humans, society, and science and technology, the interpretive skills to communicate to people and society the meaning of and issues with new technologies, and methods for responding to them, as well as explain to scientists and engineers the concerns and worries of people and society, thus being able to act as a bridge between people, society, and science and technology.
Students will acquire the following skills from taking this course.
1) Be able to specify the field to which their own research subject and research methods belong.
2) Be able to analyze their research subject using multidisciplinary research methods.
3) Be able to integrate multidisciplinary research findings.
4) Be able to learn the applicability and limitations of their own research methods, using integrated research findings.
5) Be able to understand the meaning and issues with their own research, as well as measures to take for these issues, and communicate them to others.

The students identify the field of research to which their own research objects and analysis methods belong and to select the analysis methods of various fields for the analysis of their own research objects. Then, the students are required to: participate in the classes for lectures and working on exercise problems provided by the instructors whose specialization are related to the analysis methods the students have selected; analyze their research objects with the analysis methods; integrate a variety of results of the analysis; and examine the applicability and the limitation of his/her own analysis methods by using the integrated results.
