Course description and aims

Doctoral students make a oral or poster presentation on their research results at an international conference in English or other foreign language. This course aims to cultivate the student's international presentation and communication skills, and also to clarify their research work position in society and its importance through the process for preparing the presentation and delivering it a conference.

By the end of the course, students will have the following skills:

Class flow

Students should prepare the oral or poster presentation before the international conference is held and also submit abstract to the conference. Students must have their presentation checked by his/her academic supervisors and give presentation rehearsal within laboratory in advance of conference.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend a certain length of time outside of class on preparation and review (including for assignments), as specified by the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Undergraduate Learning (東京工業大学学修規程) and the Tokyo Institute of Technology Rules on Graduate Learning (東京工業大学大学院学修規程), for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.

Assessment criteria and methods

Specifics of the assessment criteria and methods, being in accordance with the student learning outcomes 1)-2), will be determined prior to the start of the course. The supervisor will evaluate it with the assessment criteria.
The supervisor submits the results to the course educational committee with the related documents (Confirmation of academic credits from academic advisor (recommended in designated course format) and accepted Abstract of conference presentation application are mandatory), and after the document inspection, the department representatives determine the final acceptance.
