Course description and aims

The electric circuits I II are the important courses in electrical and electronic engineering, as well as electricity and magnetism. Electric circuits II focuses operating principles and design of electric circuits in several application areas in electrical and electronic engineering, based on the acquired knowledge in the course of electrical circuits I. Filter is the electric circuit to realize the specific frequency characteristics by designing pole and zero locations. Realization of required frequency characteristics by designing pole and zero locations, the filter circuits by LC ladder, and the filter circuits by operating amplifiers and integrators are discussed. Basic equations of transmission lines and their transient response, the frequency characteristics, and the reflection and transmission are discussed. In addition, three phase AC circuits and basic switching power supply are discussed for the basis of power electronics.
This course aims the understanding of important electrical circuits in the important application areas and to obtain the basic design ability for these electrical circuits.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to acquire the following ability.
1) Can explain the basic structures and basic principles of analog filters, in addition, can design them.
2) Can explain the basic equations of transmission lines and their transient response, the frequency characteristics, and the reflection and transmission.
3) Can explain the three phase AC circuits.
4) Can explain the basic structures and basic principles of switching power supplies and can design them.

Class flow

Students must read the appointed part of the lecture note uploaded in OCW-i, before coming to the class. Students must make the report to the tasks shown in previous class and submit it at the class. Simulators will be used in the class or for the home works. MATLAB and LT spice should be installed in student’s PCs.

Assessment criteria and methods

Students’ course scores are conducted based on the due reports (30%), checks of understanding, and final examination (70%).
