Course description and aims

By exposing students to skills of making speeches in confidence, students will improve their presentation skills in group discussions and presentations.

Student learning outcomes

Through this course: Students will be able to recognize the elements of a confident presentation. Students will be able to utilize tools to appear confident when speaking in English in front of people.

Course schedule/Required learning

Class 1 Orientation: Will set expectations of this course. Have each student make his/her own name plate.    List the skills necessary for improving your presentation
Class 2 Taking a poll: Students learn how to engage the whole audience at the beginning of a presentation.   Learn the skills for Ice breaking and responding 
Class 3 Involving yourself II: Students learn how to leave an impression in a conversation by practicing eye contact, using names, etc.      Learn good first impression skills such as eye contact and using names
Class 4 Appearing confident I: Students learn how to appear confident by practicing interrupting and changing topics in a conversation.         Learn skills for group discussion such as interrupting and changing topics
Class 5 Appearing confident II: Students learn how to appear confident by practicing agreeing/disagreeing and giving examples to strengthen their message.     Learn group discussion skills such as agreeing/disagreeing and communication skills such as giving examples
Class 6 Presentation prep in groups: Students will prepare a 7 minute presentation in groups based on a provided theme.       Learn skills for group meeting and planning skills
Class 7 Group presentations: The listeners will be writing down feedback for each presentation and the finished paper will be graded as a final exam.     Group presentation and application of skills    
Class 8 Group presentations: The listeners will be writing down feedback for each presentation and the finished paper will be graded as a final exam.       Give feedback to peers in terms of self-presentation
