[Summary of the course] In the Graduation Thesis, students set the theme of the Graduation Thesis research in the field of applied chemistry by discussion with the academic supervisor(s) of the laboratory and conduct the research in their laboratory. Then, students complete the Graduation Thesis by collecting the background, findings, consideration, and conclusion on the theme. Finally, students perform oral and poster presentations, questions, and discussion.
[Aim of the course] This course forms a central part of Tokyo Tech’s laboratory-based education where individual students work on a specific research theme. It has a complementary relationship with coursework based on a structured curriculum. By carrying out research, it is expected that the student will increase knowledge in his/her field and that he/she will acquire comprehensive skills to identify and develop solutions that will solve new and unsolved problems.
By the end of the Graduation Thesis, students acquire the following abilities (1)-(5):
(1) Ability to set the specific research theme in the field of applied chemistry
(2) Ability to accomplish the study through hypotheses, experiments (inspections), considerations
(3) Ability to complete the Graduation Thesis by collecting background, findings, consideration, and conclusion
(4) Ability to make the presentation materials by collecting background, findings, consideration, and conclusion
(5) Ability to understand and reply questions for the presentation accurately
