Learn concrete examples and prospects from the fundamental science based on the latest research topics in the field of materials and chemical engineering, mainly focusing on freshmen from the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering. It also aims at acquiring the attitude of study learning by gathering information themselves.
Understand the task assignment of materials and chemical engineering.
Fundamentals and techniques, research themes required for materials and chemical engineering
✔ Specialist skills | Intercultural skills | Communication skills | Critical thinking skills | Practical and/or problem-solving skills |
This lecture is an omnibus format by six faculty teachers and introduces the latest research topics in Materials and Chemical Engineering as an example.
Course schedule | Required learning | |
---|---|---|
Class 1 | Hydrogen society and systematic material design for energy applications | Learn a new energy society and how to design and develop matrials for energy applications such as fuel cells and water electrolysis. |
Class 2 | Synthesis of bifunctional molecules in vivo | Consider the advantage of synthesizing functional molecules in vivo. What do we have to think in our mind in making molecules in vivo, in comparison with that in flask? |
Class 3 | Relationships between structures and properties of polymer materials | Understand the relationships between structures and physical properties of widely used polymer materials (plastics). |
Class 4 | Fuel cells and their constituent materials | Learn the structure of automotive fuel cells and their constituent materials, and understand the importance of material research. |
Class 5 | Organic electronics and organic materials | Learn fundamental characteristics and applications of organic electronics. |
Class 6 | Development of inorganic materials using supercomputers | Understand current development of inorganic materials using state-of-the-art supercomputers, alongside "materials informatics", which is a new paradigm of materials science that deploys theoretical calculation and artificial intelligence technology. |
Class 7 | The end of term examination |
To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
