Course description and aims

In this omnibus lecture course, students learn what basics are required to understand the cutting-edge researches in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Earth and Planetary Sciences

Class 1 Mathematics:Knots and links Understand definition of knots and links. Understand motivations for study of knots and links.

Class 4 Physics:Wave equation Explain the relationship between the coupled oscilator and the wave equation.
Class 5 Physics:Properties of wave Solve the one dimensional wave equation with the fixed boundary condition.
Class 6 Physics:Electromagnetic wave, waves in quantum mechanics Derive the wave equation from the Maxwell equation.
Class 7 Physics:Waves in comtemporaly physics Explain the principles of gravitational wave observations.
Class 8 Chemistry:Current multidisciplinary chemistry Understand current chemistry not only for fundamental science but also for chemical and biological nanotechnology.
Class 9 Chemistry:Challenge to drug discovery by chemistry Understand the importance of basic chemistry research in corporate research.
Class 10 Chemistry:Nanometer-sized Jigsaw puzzle Understand the importance of basic chemistry.
Class 11 Chemistry:What I learned from research and development at companies Understand the role and importance of basic chemistry in product development in companies.
Class 12 Earth and Planetary Sciences:Solar system exploration and search for extraterrestrial life Understand the meaning of the outcomes derived from solar system exploration, and discuss the ways to find extraterrestrial life in our solar system.
Class 13 Earth and Planetary Sciences:Exoplanets Understand methods of detection and characterization of exoplanets and their observational properties.
Class 14 Earth and Planetary Sciences:Diamond: A telescope of deep inside of planets Diamonds have been used as tools to explore planets deep insdide, an unexplored frontier even today, as planetary exploration has flourished. I will explain the knowledge of the deep planetary obtained from diamonds and discuss the future prospects.

Out-of-Class Study Time (Preparation and Review)

To enhance effective learning, students are encouraged to spend approximately 100 minutes preparing for class and another 100 minutes reviewing class content afterwards (including assignments) for each class.
They should do so by referring to textbooks and other course material.
