Electrochemical devices that convert electric energy and chemical energy by exchanging electrons or ions are widely used as power storage and power generation applications, and it is believed that their importance will grow in the future. In this lecture, we will study energy conversion and storage devices such as a storage battery, fuel cell, capacitor, based on the principle of operation and the material of construction, with emphasis on surface reactions. Based on the present state of things concerning the improvement of performance of various energy devices, the latest topics and future trends will be overviewed.
By the end of this course, students will be able to discuss the operating principles and features of components of different types of electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices along with historical details, while also gaining an understanding from the problems of the newest developments and the position of each device.

Students' knowledge of crystal structure and its characterization, solid solution, and materials synthesis and their ability to apply them to problems will be assessed by reports (50%) and final exam (50%).
