Course description and aims

In succession to the Introduction, Dojo for Science and Engineering: Group Work F aims to enhance students' abilities such as recognition of problems in globalized society, skills and attitude for solving the social problems, and those for leading the innovation based on the development of science and technology that brings a new value to the society, and to cultivate the ability to take action at the same time.
Students make groups by themselves based on the recognized social problem, create ideas that solve the social problems repeatedly in collaboration with other students, propose the sophisticated idea to the society, and acquire experiences in receiving feedback. The abilities enhanced in this course, such as abilities of communication, consensus building and the ability to take action, are expected to be effective for improving the research activities in the major field.

Student learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students will be able to:
(1) Propose the practical ideas for creating innovation by utilizing the skills and knowledge of the major field.
(2) Explicate the ideas properly, and build consensus in the group by respecting the opinion of others.
(3) Improve the proposing idea appropriately based on feedback from the society.
(4) Accomplish the group work as the project.

Class flow

Process of classes depends on the character of Dojo and the theme of each class, but generally it consists of problem setting by the students' group, presentation of ideas for innovation creation, assessment and improvement of the ideas by the feedback from the society, and the discussion among the groups or with the external experts.

Assessment criteria and methods

Students will be assessed on the achievement of the learning outcomes such as proposing the practical ideas for creating innovation, consensus building in the group, dealing with the feedback from the society and so on, as well as on the rationality of discussion and contribution of collaboration work.

Osumi Dojo: The goal of this dojo is to obtain entrepreneurship to create innovation into the society in the future. To this end, many entrepreneurs are invited, and students train themselves through the introductory course, group work project and completion project in the area of evolving IT and media.
