すべての「英語スピーキング演習」の科目は、その名のとおり、学生の話す力を伸ばすことを目標としている。発表以外の場においては、効果的に話すためには効果的に聞くことも必要となることから、これらの科目の授業や宿題においては、互いに話し合う練習やきちんと聞く練習を行う。
「英語スピーキング演習第七」の主なねらいは、3、4人の話者の間で聞き話すことを通じて効果的な口頭によるコミュニケーションを行うことである。また、教科書や授業で導入された単語や文法が使えるようにすることも、授業の目標のひとつである。
この授業科目を履修することにより、学生は、3、4人またはそれ以上からなるグループでさまざまなトピックについて話し合うのに必要な技術や方法をよく知ることができる。

Classes will be conducted along the following continuum: (1) lecture and/or viewing of audiovisual documentary concerning an important global issue to be discussed, (2) discussions and debates about that issue, (3) lecture and discussion about important presentation skills, (4) delivery of pair presentations, (5) discussion and final selection of individual presentation topics, (6) delivery of individual presentations, and (7) feedback.
Students will gain and hone important speaking and listening skills in class, with reading and writing skills to be used primarily outside of class during preparation and review time. Assessment will be based on class participation and attitude, essay, pair presentation, and individual presentation.
