すべての「英語スピーキング演習」の科目は、その名のとおり、学生の話す力を伸ばすことを目標としている。発表以外の場においては、効果的に話すためには効果的に聞くことも必要となることから、これらの科目の授業や宿題においては、互いに話し合う練習やきちんと聞く練習を行う。「英語スピーキング演習GI」は夏休み中に集中講義として行われる。
この授業は海外留学するのに必要な英語口頭表現力、特にディスカッションやプレゼンテーションの力を学生に身につけさせることを目標とする。
この授業を履修することにより、学生は自分の選んだトピックについて討論したり発表をしたりすることができるようになり、留学の準備をすることができる。

Students will explore how they can use their skills and knowledge to play a role in eradicating poverty in line with the Sustainable Development Goals set by the United Nations. In the morning sessions we will watch a TED talk and study the transcript then plan a pair presentation. In the afternoon, students will deliver their presentation and pose questions to their peers. Each day's presentation will form 20% of the grade. Speaking and listening, critical thinking, and presentation skills will be the main skills practised, so this is an excellent opportunity to develop competence and confidence with spoken English.
