講義の概要とねらい
「アカデミックプレゼンテーション」のコースはすべて、さまざまな学問的な場でプレゼンテーションをおこなうための技能訓練を目的とする。実践的な練習を通じて、学生はこうした技能を効果的に発表に適用し、自信をもって多様な状況に対応するための知識を習得する。自分の考えを明晰に伝えるための戦略を学べるよう、教員は建設的なフィードバックをおこなう。さらに、学生は聴衆としても、仲間に対して洞察力のある刺激的な質問ができるよう、リスニングの技能を磨く。
400番台の選択科目として、「アカデミックプレゼンテーション第十五」は、大学院生が豊富な知識に基づくプレゼンテーションをおこなうために必要な技能を身につけることを目指す。
到達目標
コース終了時には、学生はアカデミックな場で一人でプレゼンテーションをおこない、質疑応答をこなすことができる。また、言語によるメッセージと非言語のメッセージをともに意識しつつ、聴衆を惹きつける発表をおこない、発表後は聴衆からの質問にも巧みに答えることができる。

授業の進め方
Each class, we will discuss lively readings that cover the history of scientific presentations and give pointers on techniques related to content, structure, visual aids, and delivery. Students will practice the techniques and give mini-presentations. Formal presentations will occur throughout the quarter, with extensive feedback from the instructor and peers.
