Course description and aims

This course aims to deepen students' understanding of the actual systems of Japanese companies and industries through a series of lectures given by professional company staff and study tours.
Japanese company engineers or administrators will give six lectures on Ookayama campus regarding working environment, company culture and required communication/language skills. Study tour visits to the Life Safety Learning Center in Ikebukuro,JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) Tsukuba Space Center and a factory in Kanto area are scheduled.
Attendance is required at the briefing session (at the beginning of the course), at least three lectures and two study tours.

Student learning outcomes

By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. deepen their understanding on the Japanese industrial and social system
2. understand the working environment, culture and required communication/language skills of several companies and organizations in Japan
3. understand the actual technical systems of Japanese companies and public organizations.

This course consists of three study tours and several lectures.
Student attendance is expected at the briefing session (at the beginning of the course), at least three lectures and two study tours.

Selection of the course participants (Due to the passenger capacity of the bus, the number of students who can take this class other than YSEP students (for whom the course is compulsory) is limited). Class 2 Lecture 1 by a Japanese company engineer/administrator Details will be given in each class
Class 3 Lecture 2 by a Japanese company engineer/administrator Details will be given in each class

The selection of the class participants will be conducted at the time of first class (briefing session). The following students have priority in participation.
