Through this course, Japanese and international students are expected to deepen their understanding of Japan and the Japanese society in comparison with other countries through lectures, discussions and presentations.
In the first half of the course, lectures will be given on the economic development and environmental problem of Japan. Students will discuss some key topics related with the lectures. In the last part of the course, students will be divided into several groups and make group presentations on the outline and solutions of a social issues of their home countries and/or Japan.
An opportunity to experience tea ceremony is also provided to deepen their understanding of Japanese traditional culture.
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Understand the history and characteristics of Japan's economic development
2. Understand the major environmental problems and the efforts to solve them in Japan.
3. Deepen understanding on a few important social issues of students' home countries or Japan
4. Experience traditional Japanese culture
