This course focuses on measurements of health-related indexes by students themselves, and covers the fundamentals of health sciences.
Students will measure and observe physiological and psychological responses to physical exercise.
The approaches/methods are not only useful for health sciences, but applicable to study disciplines dealing with humans (e.g., mechanical engineering, life science) .
At the end of this course, students will be able to:
1) acquire the ability to assess health-related indexes in humans, by using physiology, biomechanics and psychology.
2) have an understanding of background mechanisms of health.

In most classes, students measure several indexes or practice, write short reports, and submit them immediately before the end of the class.
Attendance is taken in every class.

Class 2 | CPR and first aid | Practice CPR and first aid, and understand them, including AED |
Class 3 | Eenrgy balance (assessment of energy intake and consumption) | Assess energy intake by food intake and energy consumption by physical activity, and understand their meanings. |
Class 4 | Assessment of maximal oxygen uptake (stamina) (Exercise) | Assess student's own maximal oxygen uptake by using cycle ergometer. |
Class 5 | Oxygen uptake (Lecture) | Understand maximal oxygen uptake and its background. |
Class 6 | Changes in heart rate and mental health by light exercise | Observe changes in heart rate and mental healt associated with light exercise and understand their mechanisms and backgrounds. |
Class 7 | Relaxation, massage and easy training | Practice relaxation, massage and easy training. |
Class 8 | Summary and discussion | Discuss relationships between health and measurements dealt in classes. Group of four makes slogan for health behaviors. |
