Sustainable Development has been secured by various technologies. In the course of Sustainable Engineering Technology, leading engineers and researchers will give lectures on specific areas which are crucial for sustainable development, such as, energy and environment, material production, and information technology. In addition to the lectures, students will conduct group work for a specific topic which is related to the theme of the year. The accomplishment of the group work will be presented in a seminar (Satellite Seminar).
Through lectures, group work, and seminars with the students of different disciplines, this course aims to train students as “highly educated, internationalized engineers” having a wide spectrum of technical knowledge from basics to their applications.
Through the lectures and the group work and seminar with the students of different disciplines, the students will learn about the related special areas on sustainable engineering and their relation to own specialty, and experience the interdisciplinary collaborative work for the specific projects.
Sustainability, Multi-disciplinary collaboration, Energy, Presentation and discussion skills
|Intercultural skills||Communication skills||Specialist skills||Critical thinking skills||Practical and/or problem-solving skills|
In the first half of this course, the students have lectures by leading engineers and researchers. At the end of each lecture, the students should answer and submit a short test. In the second half, the students are divided into groups of about six students each, and they conduct the group work for a specific topic which is related to the theme of the year. The group work will be presented at a seminar (Satellite Seminar). The participation of Satellite Seminar is compulsory.
|Course schedule||Required learning|
|Class 1||・Orientation ・Lectures about energy problems ・Lectures about the specific theme of the year ・Group Works for an individual topic ・Satellite Seminar (Site visit, Group presentation and discussion)||・Understanding the course objective ・Learning common issues related to sustainable development, such as energy and environment ・Learning about a specific industry and its relation to sustainable society ・Experiencing collaborative work with persons having different specialties. ・Enhancing presentation and discussion skills|
Course materials will be provided.
Short tests after each lecture (50%), Satellite seminar (50%)
Due to the capacity of Satellite Seminar, there is a limitation in the number of registration (about 60 students) . The priority will be given to the students who participate Sustainable Engineering Course.
