This is a blended learning course where students study online course materials to learn about educational technology (Edtech) and apply knowledge they have gained to access online learning applications. Up to 15 students may enroll in this course on a space/seat available basis. Classroom lectures will be held the first and second weeks, there will be few formal lectures in this course and learning will be derived from studying online materials on the edX edge website and group work. This course is supported in part by Tokyo Tech Online Educational Development Office (OEDO) and periodically may use of its facilities. A high level of English communication ability is required for this class equivalent to 800 points or higher on the TOEIC exam. 30% quizzes, 20% participation in group work including self/peer assessment, 50% final project report and group presentation on applying course derived knowledge to evaluate a EdTech app that solves real-world or academic e-learning problems.
Knowledge about online learning education technology and experience with MOOCs is helpful but not required. Advanced English conversation and ability to work in a group is required.
This is the first of a two part course series related to online learing using open edX learning management system. Students who complete the course will have skills to create online courses using video, graphics and text. After completing the two course series, students will have the basic skills required to be an onlined educational development office teaching assistant creating online courses.
